Laying stars to rest

The shadows begin to lengthen
As evening comes to rest
And light shines through silver clouds
Behind the mountain’s star-lit vest
So walk with me in the fields tonight
When the stars begin to shine
And I’ll take you to a place I know
With a blanket and sparkling wine
Where stars disappear over the horizon
As silent streaks of light
So lie beside me on your back
And we’ll watch the stars tonight

And all across the world tonight
They’re laying stars to rest
As they fall their beauty fades
From Bethlehem to Budapest
Shooting stars fall silently
Like strangers passing by
It sometimes makes me wonder
If they’re tears the angels cry

But have you ever wondered
What brings them down to earth?
What shooting stars are made of
Or how much one of them is worth?
Because there’s magic beneath the stars
Near to you and your blue-eyed soul
And perhaps one day we’ll find one
Whether it’s a diamond or a lump of coal

And all across the heavens tonight
They’re laying stars to rest
As they fall their beauty fades
But lingers in my breast
But your tender heart is genuine
Your star is bright and true
I knew right-away, the first time we met
One day I’d fall for you
And the sky tonight is lovely
So darling grant me one request:
Lie beside me on your back
And we’ll watch the stars go west
